SEBI: AMCs not prohibited by any regulations from taking stressed assets on their books

According to media reports, SEBI Chairman said that the asset management companies are not prohibited by any regulations from taking stressed assets on their books. This is in reference to the questions raised by various stakeholders in the mutual fund industry regarding to AMCs decision to take distressed securities on their books. In the latest update, HDFC AMC announced its decision to buy non-convertible debentures of two Essel group companies from some of its FMP schemes.
