SEBI planning to allow banks and mutual funds in commodity markets

In an effort to reduce the asymmetry between equity and commodity space, SEBI is planning to allow new participants such as banks, mutual funds, and foreign portfolio investors to participate in the commodity market. The regulator is also planning to set measures for reducing risks and improving liquidity in the commodity market. SEBI is also working on the new hedging mechanism to increase volumes. It is also eyeing to allow portfolio management services in commodities.
